Invisalign Update October 4, 2008

So I’m sure many of you have noticed that I’ve not made an update since March 22, 2006…YIKES!! I was in a car accident and under the water for a few months with broken bones and the like, but nothing too serious. I just didn’t have a whole lot of time to make regular postings.
However, I completed my Invisalign treatment successfully and I’ve been wearing the retainer now for a little over a year. I only wear the retainer at night, but I try and immediately brush my teeth after I know I’m not eating anything else at night and put them in to make sure I get the recommended 8 hours.
I recently relocated and I’m in the process of finding a new Invisalign provider to obtain retainer trays from. I have not yet ordered any replacement sets, but the ones I have now are definitely starting to show their wear. I heard recently Invisalign came out with its own brand of retainer that is automatically delivered to you every three months or so. It is suppose to be stronger than the original trays and prevent any shifting. If anyone has any information on these or has them let me know what you think.

I just clicked in my ninth set of invisaligns. It really does not feel like I have had them for 24 weeks now!! WOW, the time really does fly by. This set of trays is definately “focusing” more on my front teeth. If I bite down or press my tounge against the aligners I feel the pressure in the front. In two weeks I will be on the tenth set…I cannot wait!! 😀

I was in Walgreens today looking for one of those little mirrors that the dentists use to see the teeth in the back of your mouth. They had a few that had the mirror with dental tools, but I just wanted the mirror. Then I found one that appeared to have a built in light…I was very excited!! 🙂 After I got home and looked at it, it also comes with a little bottle, which contains a florescent sodium formula. You put a few drop of it in your mouth and swish it around and then use the mirror (and the built in blue light) to see all of the plaque in your mouth that you missed when you brushed (or you can use it before you brush). I thought it was pretty neat. I have never heard of anything like this before. It did appear to work as around the gum line I could see a yellow glow of several spots that I had missed. It is kind of like a little game!! 😀

I was looking in my mouth this morning after I took out the aligners, for some random reason, and noticed on my right cheek I had a raised horizontal line where the two aligners meet when my teeth are resting/mouth is closed. The line goes from the very back where my molars are to the very front of my mouth where it meets my lip. It does not hurt and I can barely feel it with my tongue, but I am not really sure what to think of it. I guess it is possible that I could have bit down during the day before (or overnight) and caused this. I hope it is not these new aligners irritating my mouth!! 😦
